Welcome to Barr Amps
Once a decision is reached, I set to work devising a schematic, sourcing parts, figuring out a layout, measuring, cutting, drilling, filing sanding, positioning and mounting transformers, sockets, cap cans, jacks, pots, switches, lights, etc., etc.. Then comes, the wiring, soldering, checking, re-checking, testing, measuring, playing, tweaking, testing, measuring, playing, etc., and finally the handoff, when the new amp leaves the nest.
I am very passionate about my amplifiers, each build typically takes 4 to 6 weeks - I could build them faster and cheaper, but the world is already full of efficiently-built products, and I like to think that the patience, attention to detail and handcrafted aspect of my builds elevates them to something beyond the usual off-the-shelf amplifiers we have all been buying and selling for years. When an amp is hand-assembled to this level of detail and individuality, not only does it have a startlingly lively and open tone, but each has a distinctive personality - tailor-made to suit its owner.
How I work...
Most of the amps I build are custom designs, as unique and characterful as the individual musician to whom they belong. I usually go back and forth with a client, talk about what amps they have liked or disliked in the past, discuss the sounds of their influences and what they are looking for, and most importantly, get a sense of each player’s personality.
Some people know exactly what they want, while others like to explore a lot of options. Some people want a clone of a classic amp, while others want that classic amp, but with more or less power, or a second channel, reverb, more or less compression, smoother, more aggressive, etc.. Usually I collaborate with the player and we end up creating an entirely new design.

“I picked the amp up this morning and it arrived in perfect condition. It was good timing in the sense that we rehearse on Thursday's for about 6 hours every week. It sounds freakin' incredible. seriously, my band mates know their stuff and it's rare anybody would praise a piece of gear but i'll tell you, everyone was impressed to the point of asking me all about it and saying how well it sits in the mix, etc. I concur... the amp is very musical and enjoyable to play through and listen to. moreso than anything i've owned over the years and that's actually saying quite a bit right there.
The design is great, it looks cool and is really player friendly. the switching works just as i had hoped and the channels both sound awesome but i'm now in love with the 6L6 side. well, you know your amps sound great. Hey man, I have no complaints or gripes and I gave it quite a workout already, so I would know if I did by now.
It works perfectly with my pedalboard. What can I say, I'm thrilled I chose to buy one of your amps and it smokes my badcat by quite a bit.”

I hope you enjoy some feedback that a couple of my clients were kind enough to leave:
“I got the amp into rehearsal friday night and it was fantastic. Just the right volume and really great tone. I really am bonding with the 6v6 side and it just eats pedals so well.
I love the Hi Fi trannies in this amp. The immediacy and attack are great. The amp really holds together well with high gain palm mutes and just has a clarity that cuts so well, but isn't dry. I'm playing the amp with a 62 Hofner that I salvaged(pic included). It has a single TV Jones Classic Plus with a mini toggle for tapping and a single volume knob. It was love through the TNT. Everything from Fugazi to drive by truckers tones. Everyone in the band gave me "that" look on Friday. I got nothing but positive comments all night.
This amp will have me selling a couple others and likely getting another from you soon.”
